“Building technology designed to bring structure to the ideas, responsibilities and information competing for our attention.”
About James Rios
James Rios is a Maryland-based business professional and creator with deep roots in Northern Virginia.
Raised in Fairfax, Virginia, James spent much of his early life and education in Northern Virginia before establishing his professional career in Maryland. He later attended George Mason University’s School of Business in Fairfax, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management.
With more than a decade of professional experience in financial services, James’s background spans leadership, team development, operations, and customer experience. Alongside his professional career, he develops independent projects spanning digital media, podcasting, technology, artificial intelligence, and creative production.
Scattered is one of those projects.
Creating Scattered
Scattered was created by James Rios as a personal command center — a single workspace that brings together the tasks, calendar, notes, projects, journals, spending and reminders that usually end up spread across separate apps, tabs and notebooks.
The problem Scattered is designed to address is the friction of having ideas, responsibilities and information scattered across too many places — and the cost of constantly switching between them to find what matters.
Scattered approaches this with a small set of connected tools: a customizable dashboard, a calendar, tasks, projects, notes, reminders, a handwriting-friendly journal, and personal spending and budget tracking — organized through Spaces, custom life-area categories that let each person shape the app around their own life and work.
The core philosophy is that organization should adapt to the person, not the other way around. Scattered is built to reduce the distance between having a thought and having a place for it.
The Idea Behind Scattered
The idea behind Scattered is simple: most people don’t need another app — they need fewer places to look.
When tasks, notes, appointments and ideas live in different tools, the work of keeping track of them becomes its own task. Scattered is built around reducing that friction: bringing the everyday pieces of a person’s life into one place where they can be seen, organized and acted on without switching context.
The goal isn’t to do more. It’s to make the things already competing for attention easier to hold.
Business, Technology & Creative Problem-Solving
James Rios has a particular interest in the intersection of business, technology and creativity.
His independent projects explore how emerging technology—including artificial intelligence—can be used to turn ideas into practical digital experiences.
His work has included areas such as digital product development, app concepts, website design, branding, AI-assisted creative production, digital media and content development.
Rather than treating technology as the idea itself, James approaches technology as a tool for solving problems, organizing information and creating useful experiences.
